Last devlog, we finished up the sepia CGs and entered the realm of simple CGs. Many of these are so simple (like the one above) that you can’t help but wonder: how can you improve on them?
There’s always little things to upgrade. In the Mercy drawing CG you see up there, Clip Studio’s new realistic traditional media brushes allow me to smudge pencil lines and draw just like I would with a real pencil. I also added a texture to the image to make it really feel like it’s being drawn on a piece of paper and recorded like on a children’s special.
For reference, here’s the original version of this CG variant:
You can see here that the brush quality is not up to par in comparison. While it still has partially erased draft lines, the lack of texture and smudge makes it fall just a little flat.
As far as progress on these CGs goes, it was another week of prioritizing freelance work, so not as much was done as I liked, but I did roughly sketch the vast majority of them. Here is one I’m sure many people will be able to recognize. :)
I’m thinking next week will be much better. I’m finishing some things up on my end, so please look forward to a more robust devlog next Sunday!
